Politics: A Bunch of Bananas for the Monkeys?

Malaysia has always been a peaceful country so far,
compared to many developing countries. I am indeed thankful. The fact that I am going to serve almost my entire life here does not hamper me, for I know the idealism of people who had the thoughts of migration are no better. I had an aunt who worked as a stock broker in Singapore. She claimed that Singapore is not good enough for her, so she brought her family with her to New Zealand, rather tending on the cows and work in a coffee shop, or sometimes feeding on the unemployment benefits from the government. She boasted it as a good life. Is it really that good, if all these while she had been spendthrift in Singapore? Or perhaps, a lot of old folks came back to Malaysia after emigrating for years, from Canada, Australia, and even England? I have countless stories to share, but I'll just let it be here. However, the politics here is definitely commendable. I mean, the opposition. I am not really pro-government, but the opposition definitely amuse me every time. They bark for the sake of barking?

Malaysia has been infamous for its corrupted
system. I myself would not deny that I am not, but I am just stating the fact. But let's try picturing this: In US, there are lobbying efforts done to gain favoritism from the government and policy-makers. This is actually, what they call official corruption. In fact, lobbyists are present in all levels of government, in most countries especially the European Union and US, in order to differentiate themselves from being branded corrupted. As a matter of opinion, I just think that they are just high-class corrupted countries. Without corruption, there is no 'extra push' given to move the country.

Alright, let's look at another example in Malaysia. A young
man was caught speeding on a country road. He 'bribed' the officer to let him go and the police officer consented to it. I'm sure this would cause uproar among citizens of Malaysia as usual, while if they themselves are involved, they would be dying to pay the bribe rather than the summonses. This is seen as unethical conduct and opposed for the sake of morality and the so-called safety of the public. While this is true, is this the absolute judgment of what is right and wrong? On another perspective, let's look at the scenario again. The police officer is being underpaid for his work, and the government is too poor to pay them more. Even if the summonses are monetary contributions to the government, I doubt if the police officer will gain any extra income from there. So, this "bribery" acted as an extra income for them, and the traffic offender pay a lower fees for his offense. Plus, if you think the offender really paid less, think again. An offender receiving a summonses rarely settle it. I know of many youngsters keeping a stash of the tickets as their trophies of honor. So, what the police officer really did was to make sure that the offender paid for his offenses! And here's a disclaimer: I am not advising you readers to commit more traffic offenses, but I'm just trying to let you see from another perspective. In life, it is different from textbooks. There is no absolute right or wrong. All solutions always seem possible.

Moving on the main topic again. I still find that our
country's opposition party is still lacking. They point fingers and blame the government for everything, but it is also the opposition's job to give positive criticism to propel the government to move forward, and not instead, just trying to bring down the government's credibility by pointing fingers. The opposition could barely see through the problems in the government's administration. Perhaps, there is also a need to reform the opposition and not dominated by the old-timers and their spoiled children. Regarding to the post on Lim Kit Siang's blog querying the inability of the government to make any arrests on any senior police officers who are claimed to be corrupted. Since there are around 40% of them, any attempt to arrest all of them will cause a vacuum in the police organization and the there will definitely be a security threat due to lack of manpower. And what makes you think that there are definitely better replacements? This is indeed a tricky problem which if I could find the solution, I would be rising up the ranks in MCA perhaps. Let's look at another perspective again. These senior officers, apart from accepting 'bribes', are very able to handle other security matters very efficiently. Being capable and having so much experience, arrresting or firing them will lead to more problems and everything crumples.

And the post on the Bukit Gantang road carnage does

not help. Although Datuk Seri Chan Kong Choy was 'blamed' for pointing fingers at everyone but himself, the best thing to be done was to find a solution to all these problems, not by pointing the fingers at the government to take better care of the administration of the roads. Specific details and solutions would have to come up. General ideas like the one posted in the blog can be raised by a 12 year old kid in his UPSR exams. Then the blames can be put on both sides, the government and the opposition if we have to. But of course, a solution is needed, and research needed to be done. If the opposition is really that capable, they could form their own research team into this matter and present it to the government. This would bring better credibility to the opposition. But of course, the equally-as-selfish opposition would not do such time and money-wasting effort because "it is the government's job".

And the best part was, the post on how to emulate
the effort done by China. Being totally different, we would not be able to do such things. Plus, he has not made any research on the economic policy of China. The true cause and effect of China's economic policy and trend is not really as promising as it was thought. Cultural values, family ties and moral ethics had been left out in the development sense. The new generation of China's city folks had been so far mostly branded spoiled brats, indulging in expensive brands and had an exquisite taste for anything..expensive. Being a big country, it would not fall that easily (hopefully), but one have to foresee what that will happen through the course of time. So, we would not want to simply emulate any feat done by other countries without studying them beforehand.

The last comment was done on the Lim Kit Siang blog
as a whole. I would not say that it is a totally-waste-of-time blog, but rather some idea-generating blog for youngsters and oldsters (whatever you wanna call them) alike. The best part was the one complaining about how his car was being clamped for parking at unsuitable places. He did not blame himself, but instead, cause a furore on the rights on a certain company to clamp his car. Now, would this be so government-like as commented by the opposition? *Wink* In the end, it's just the pot calling the kettle black. So, no fret. Go on with life. Reformation has to be done in both parties, at least, that one day we would have an official opposition just like the one in UK, the Conservative Party against the Labour Party.

Of Human Origin

Benjamin Franklin's Kite experiment

This is the 2nd post on the same day, at a much
later time. I guess humans are sociable creatures. Interaction creates ideas, so staying indoor too long would not help much. Picture this: If Isaac Newton had not been sitting under an apple tree, he wouldn't discover the presence of gravity, and there wouldn't be any Universal Law of Gravitation, or perhaps, even Newton's 1st Law, 2nd Law and hence forth. To my amusement, I'd always trying to picture what would happen it was a durian tree. Would Newton STILL discover gravity, or would he end up in the hospital, with the inability to control his mental faculty? On the other hand, Benjamin Franklin's kite experiment to prove the conductivity of electricity can't be proven by staying indoor. After all these lengthy details, I would just like to emphasize to myself not to stay indoor too much. It kills off brain cells and creates an invisible barrier towards discovery.

If and only if Newton was under a durian tree...

I'd always tried to picture my ancestral origins. Where
were we from? What is my lineage, and my blood name. The fact that my Wong family is the only Wong family in the Hakka Clan makes things worse. Did we stray apart from our lineage? Were we aliens who were inept at assimilating that we mixed up the clans and surnames? My flesh looks real, and... never mind about what I said. I had a friend who had commented that I looked like someone from the Middle East!! Another one commented that I had the features of Northern China origin, or perhaps, even like Korean? Maybe that accounts for my distaste towards Korean guys, because I don't find them cute, I just find them..normal.. Haha.. All I could remember was that the Korean Tour guide I had during my trip to Korea commented that I do look like a Korean, plus the experience I had when I was there. There was a seller who was speaking Korean to me!! Maybe I could just blend right in if I'd know some Korean language. I don't mind, since Korean girls are kind of..acceptable. Just kidding. I'm still a Malaysian at heart, despite being a Chinese. Maybe I should attribute my features to my mum's 'mixing' techniques during my 8 months stay in her.
My origin? A monkey maybe?

In the end, after some fondling thoughts of
my own, I figured that it is of no importance. Why am I such a fool to try that hard? What is more important is to look forward as we stride ahead. History is a great teacher, but do not stay too long behind such that we do not advance. The excitement is always just in front of you. It is up to you to figure it out and to enjoy. Alas, the burden had been let go. And I am really looking forward as I leave my past who had been a great teacher all these while. I have learned a lot from it. Thank you for all these while. My second enlightenment had arrived somehow. It is time to create another piece of history, at least, of my own, if not for the world.

Food for Thought

Having watch Ratatouille on Friday, everything that comes
into mind is FOOD!! Romantic FOOD!! Another success run by Pixar, especially when you see some teary eyes from the folks in the cinema. I can name you some, but I'll guess I'll keep it to my own amusement. A film to watch for this summer, even if it's winter in the southern hemisphere at this time of the year.
The way to man's heart is through his stomach

Everyone loves food. In fact, there's a quote stated
that "The way to a man's heart is through his stomach." But to me, I think it applies to both genders, which means, everyone loves food! Everyone craves for a particular food for some time, at all time. Be it some Italian Pasta, French Pastry, American Fast Food, Chinese exquisite cuisine, Steaks and Grills, Japanese Sushi and Teppanyaki, Korean's Kimchi and BBQ delight, most people have a preference. Or it's just some cakes, some brownies, cookies, Swiss chocolates to some local delights such as Nasi Lemak. The appetising aroma which arouse the joy somewhere hidden in the penthouse in your body, namely the limbic system. I must admit though, food alone had not manage to seduce or tempt my appetite for a long while, although I wonder if it's normal. Maybe it's because I'd managed to 'muscle my way through the gag reflex that opens up a whole new range of possibilities.' (Quoted from Emile in Ratatouille while grabbing a bite at some garbage).

Since it's all about food, let me throw something at
you readers to ponder. Why is it that you crave for that particular food? Delicious? Is that really the answer? Imagine yourself having your favourite food for each meal everyday, making it at least 3 times a day. Go on for 3 months if you can last that long. I know that most of you would be elated at the thought of it, but the truth is, not many can last for more than 3 days, and the numbers decrease as days goes by. It could be that the mind is playing a trick on us, for we long for something that we could hardly get. Scarcity increases its value in today's market of supply and demand. Food that we could always get, we grew tired of it. Therefore, humans are creatures with unjustifiable needs and cravings, which propel them forward to an era of technology surpassing every other species on earth. And yes, humans are also the only creature on earth who would kill their kin not for the sake of survival. Wars are made, and the outstanding feud had never fail to end its cycle. My advice?
Make love, not war.

Back to our topic about food, have you ever seen
someone craving for staple food? You may call them nuts, but I still think that they are perfectly sane. They know what they want. They know what they can enjoy eating everyday without getting fed up with it. They just truly know..what's best for them! I can be a food's worst critic if I wanted to be, but that would not neccesitate me to crave for the best food, for it serves no ultimate goal. The same goes to girls. I may have what others call 'exquisite taste', ' eyes on the top of my head' (where hair grows usually), or some 'discerning eyes', the fact is I do not seek the best of all, just that I'm looking for the one best suits me. I'm kind of a practical person, so I guess I'll stick to the maxim "Love is not with someone you can't live without, but it is with someone you can live with." I am after all, a simple man, and something which may look trivial, like a fried egg, could make this heart of mine contented. =P

Mid-Sem Post

After what seems to be a short while, it's officially mid-sem break. Been trying out different things lately, like swimming under the torture of the iron-lady (stated in my previous post), jogging (which have not manage to make me lose weight, nevertheless makes me feel good and healthy), singing under the drizzling rain in hope of summoning a ferrocious thunderstorm, trying out the dance machine, para para ala hand movements, drums and percussions arcade, and many more. I know it sounds silly, but at least it helps me to get on with life apart from being in med school. The fact that my tummy won't turn into a 6 or 8-pack abs would not hamper my spirit either. I am human afterall, and humans do silly stuff. Well, just like some proverbs from the previous post, a fool who persists in his folly shall become wise. And yes, I just add some into the list yesterday night with a bruise on my right palm, trying to open the cap of a mineral water bottle. The feeble attempt to get that 'something' backfired. Lolz..

I guess I can blurt out nonsensical stuff here, going on and on without pausing, but wouldn't any readers feel bored with it? ( Are there any readers anyway?) So I found a solution to this, which is to read more! It's been quite some time now that I haven't really read, to submerge myself in the ideas and perspective of the authors, to dwell into their thoughts and emotions while they were penning their thoughts to complete what turns out to be a bestsellers. And people like me used less than a day to finish reading what they've created in perhaps, a few months at least?

Therefore, I'm going to stop blogging here for a while, waiting for new ideas to come naturally into my mind. I guess I'll be playing and trying out more different things, being a daredevil, one of its kind. Until then, we shall meet again. Do buzz me on the phone if you need me. I can't promise that I'll always be there, but I will make sure that I will try..

It’s a long chilling night. I just couldn’t stop my teeth

from harping a melodious clattering. The best I could do is to tuck my clammy hands into my dull grayish coat. Damn myself for leaving in a hurry this morning. I could be suffering from frostbite anytime now. The wailing sirens at the other end of the street sent some beggars scampering for cover. They are not to be caught, for their own survival. Funny, I reckoned. Perhaps it was their fear for the authority that made them do that, for they had done no crime yet. Or have they? That I wouldn’t know. What I knew, is that I would be late for my shift if I stood here, allowing my mind to linger aimlessly. I trampled and kicked up some snow dirt in a hurried effort passing through the Royal Opera House. The white building seemed as if it was fully covered by snow. It was a true beauty of architecture, although I had mistaken it as the US’ White House when I first arrived here. It’s unusual to snow in London, but I’m in no mood to enjoy the scenery. Descending into the Covent Garden station, I dashed to the counter to get my ticket, and board the train at the nick of time. The train was unusually packed at this hour. Why? Something struck my mind. They must have been from the London International MIME festival. I had promised to bring her there. But here I am, still stuck with my work. For these past 3 years, I had been breaking more promises than I could make. I figured I would make sure that I’ll be there for her this weekend. The MIME fest is up till this weekend anyway. It’ll be our 5th anniversary together. I’ll remember to buy some yellow carnations. That’s her favourite.

The train has reached Barbican. I got out and stride
swiftly out of the station, ascending the stairs. Bartholomew’s Med School is just across the Charterhouse Street. At last, I’m there. The lack of sleep for the past week, however, took its toll on me. Before I knew it, I drop on my knees, knowing nothing. The world starts to spin itself around me and I was slowly devoured by the world of darkness. The last thing I could hear was the horn from some vehicle, getting nearer and nearer… And I will never know what had happened..

AMSC 2007 Korea

After a long while, I'd logged on to Facebook to view my account. Saw many photos on AMSC Korea 2007. Seems it was quite happening and at a much larger scale than Taiwan (Of course, definitely) I think I really missed my chance to be there. What a waste.. But then again, if I'd go, I think I would fail my CVS module. Even now, I can't guarantee that I can pass. I hate it. I promised that I would be going for next year's EAMSC and AMSC. God bless allow me to go. I'm relying on my past good karma(if there was really sumthing good in me) to send me there.

On an unrelated issue, I am lamenting here so that for those who are still wondering, yes, I am still alive, barely. Mind has been maxed out, no reserves left. And yesterday, my body had been maxed out too, by the Iron Lady who never knew the meaning of rest. Perhaps I'm just weak. But on the bright side, at least my body and mind are equally weak. I prefer synchronisation rather than asynchrony. At least I can sleep better, with no nightmares, and all the headaches gone temporary. Only time shall heal everything, because I am in no position to do anything..
