Pre-Valentine

2
Today marked the end of my long case. The worst Id ever had. Guess I might have been too poor to be able to do well. I can blurt and used up 3 days 3 nights of your time reading it, but I'd rather go for something lighter.

Today I'd gone for celebration of Valentine's, be it for the last supper or not. Life still goes on, so there's nothing you can do worrying. We went to Gypsy Wine & Bar to try out some appetizing menu seen on KYs blog, so it's better for ourselves to judge it since he's more of a photofood blogger than an actual taster. It is located along Jalan Changkat Bukit Bintang, the rows of restaurants of international taste, just off Jalan Alor (The road which was almost changed to Labia Majora).

To begin with, I'd had a Long Island while Stella had a Coke. I'm not a pro-taster in cock and tails, so I'll leave it as it be, not being something wonderful enough to get me having it again.
For starters, we had mussels, Kam Heong style for RM12. It seems kind of worth it since there's around 13 mussels nicely seasoned enough to spice up your appetite. Fried shrimps were used to fill the mussels with the distinct crunchy flavor as you bite on the juicy flesh of the mussel. Im sure it'll goes down well with beer, but the amount of oil and the beer? Watch out for your liver then.
What else to start the main course with lamb skewer(RM23)? This dish was supposed to be the specialty as featured in the Guiness menu. Either way, it must have been off the Guiness by then since we cant taste anything Guiness about it. Nevertheless, the sauteed pea aka 'kacang putih' served as the side dish in this lamb skewer tasted delicious, with the aroma of the sauce fully released as the 'kacang putih' as you munch on them. The 4 chunks of lamb, however, was a bit on the disappointing side. The lamb chunks were unevenly skewered, thus there are parts which tend to be overskewered and feels too hard on the teeth in a jaw exercising routine. To me, the lamb meat should be on the juicy side and not on the dried side. There is some sort of brown sour juice/sauce accompanying the lamb skewer, supposedly to make it taste better. However, it is recommended that you had the lamb and kacang putih (with sauce) in one biteful, which would goes down well for the tastebuds.

The Milanese spaghetti(RM21) was on the interesting side, with an emphasis on the black pepper rather than the tomato sauce as the main flavoring. I must admit that the spaghetti noodles was very well done. The chef did well in maintaining the sponginess of the noodles and drenching the noodles in the sauce. However, the oil used for this dish was on the excessive side too, which I felt that a reduction in the amount of oil would not affect this dish much. This spaghetti taste slightly on the bland side and would qualify for healthy food if not for amount of the oil(possibly olive) used. For spice lovers, you can try mixing in the mussels' Kam Heong flavor with the spaghetti and it goes really well and tastes even more delicious.

The ambience is kind of nice especially in the inner setting of the bar where there is more privacy. However, there wont be any non-smoking area since this is a bar anyway. (Not much smoking going on though at my time of visit) The music played was slow and serenating, and some football action in the big screen inside the bar, which was quite on a contrast today.

After a hearty meal, we left the place to catch up with a night movie. Bride Wars(Chick flick) was kind of refreshing for movie ideas despite some unbelievable and immorale scenarios. Othewise, it is good for a laugh or some tissue moments with your friends as well.

The movie lasted around 90 minutes, and we headed back to UKMMC since we had classes tomorrow. So long for a day, and we call it a night. Well, of course, it was a valentine night for us too.

*Note: The lamb skewer and mussels pics was taken from KY, as my cameraphone does not work well under dimmed lights. Apart from that, the rest are mine, yes, including the girl in the photo. :P

The Tanjung Karang Chronicles: Episode 1

6
Day 1:
Sunday was the day we started our journey. The journey to Tanjung Karang was a straightforward route, despite being something long-winded and almost monotonous.

Looked more like mountain roads

Settled into the rented house, and refit the place so that we could stay in a more comfortable environment.

The 2 corners of my small room, before the linoleum was fitted in.
Day 2 and 3 and 4 and probably the rest of the days:
Lecture starts and ends without much attention paid. Students are busy with their laptops during lectures, dwelling in their seriousness as they really do mean business.

Staring intently into the screen. Loads of work in mind.

Their artwork of paradise. Coconuts in the making.

Beanie plushie toy with his happy smile

My Banana plushie that I had for my birthday

For the rest of the days, we explored around and had become regulars at the coconut stall nearby. Cucur udang and pisang goreng goes rather well with air kelapa, or what we had called CSF (Cerebrospinal fluid, the fluid that bathes the brain) since there are quite a number of incidences people called it air kepala.

Enjoying Coconuts before we turned ourselves into CocoNUTS. Apparently, the girl on the left had turned more into a kampong girl in this pic. And my dear is smiling sweeter. Maybe it's just me or perhaps the coconut's sweetness has taken its effect.

Enjoying the scenery while enjoying our air kelapa. And the windy weather too.

And yesterday night? We ventured to Sekinchan for seafood! It's kinda fresh and tasty too.

Restaurant Chai Lee that we went to despite heavy rain yesterday evening. (This photo not taken by me)

Our dishes for the night.

Gone with the mouth

The bill: RM 125

The seafood was worth it for its freshness and price, but it would seem that we would be overspending past our budget. In just 3 days, I only had RM 90 in my wallet out of the RM 200+. I'll wonder how would we be able to survive for the rest of the days. Maybe we ought to feed ourselves with Maggi Mee everyday. Lolz!

Made of Honor Premiere

11
It was a tiring day, but it was all worthwhile. The 8-course fusion dinner at J.W. Marriott was really fantastic. There were really a lot of people, with almost 500 people who attend the function, mainly 100 Nuffnang bloggers, and mostly from Hong Leong people and J.W. Marriot people. The event started at 6.30pm with free-flow beverages, serving from champagne with strawberry, beer, soft drinks and fruit juices. Of course, Nuffnangers are mostly punctual, so we were been conned by Robb for coming at 6pm. *Sigh* Nevermind, we still get to enjoy the free flow beverages.

My dear

All runs of life, perhaps

A few booths were set up yesterday outside the ballroom, where they serve free flow drinks. There were YTL catering, a bridal canter, travelling packages with Thai Airlines, and even Marie France Bodyline. The best part was, Marie France Bodyline hired a few plump girls as their sales rep there. Okay, I'm not discriminating, but how can you convince people with such staff? It's like, seeing a Dermatologist who had a face full of acne!:P

Table 36 - The table I sat

Anyway, we started entering the ballroom at 7pm, which started at around 7.30pm nearing to 8pm. The ballroom was all pink and white, and I was sitting at table 36, just behind the table of Nuffnang's VIPs, which have Timothy Tiah, Su Ann, Suet Li, KY, and many more. Everyone was given a bag of Made of Honor goodies merchandise, and served the 8-course meal on a rather quick basis. It was intended such that the next dish would be served once we have finished with our current dish. However, since the next dish was already on the tray next to our table, we Malaysians tend to feel hurried, so that we finish our meal faster. Of course, not to mention that we would want to be on time for the Made of Honor movie at 9.45pm screening! :P

The Scottish experience at the start of the dinner, despite the fact that the bagpipers are merely Malaysians.

I must admit that some of the fusion dishes were delicious and exquisite. I can describe how each of it tastes like, and which taste good and which not, but I'll be boring you guys readers enough with such stuff. Hehe..

The exquisite menu ( The 8th was coffee/tea, do I need to put them in?:P) Click to enlarge

Most of us bloggers tend to be absorbed by the atmosphere that minimal photos were taken. Maybe everyone wants to be elegant, since we had been acting like high-class gentlemen and ladies, not wanting to look like coming from a "KAMPONG" in Taman Negara. Some did take more photos, but trust me, it's rather minimal for a gathering which had 100 bloggers in it.

There were performances by the top 3 finalists of "The Most Talented Couple" of Made of Honor. Obviously, the competition was not well publicized since the couple who sang were rather flat in their singing performances, which I don't think could even qualify for a Karaoke competition. The other 2 were dances, and the best was the couple of a 14 year old boy and a 9 year old girl dancing Cha Cha! They were perfect in their mastery of the dance such that thedance were really flawless. However, it was so flawless that it lack the uniqueness of a dancer(a.k.a. the signature dancing style that signifies a dancer). Anyway, given their young age, they are very great indeed. Kudos! They won it anyway. n_n

The dance couple

The young dancing couple. They went on to win the contest.

Anyway, they gave out lots of lucky draw prizes which almost none of us got (Correct me if I'm wrong). However, they did have awards for the best dressed male and female, as well as the best dressed couple. I couldn't see who's the best dressed awards as Nuffnanger's VIP table decided that they shall no longer trying to act un"kampong" and girls start snapping group photos of the themselves. Although each and every girl (Pink Pau, Suet Li, etc) was slim, together they could block the view too. And after that Robb and Pink Pau stood up and blocked my view again. -.-"

Nuffnang's pweety gals.. (Although I think my gf's cuter :P)

Robb and Pink Pau

Anyway, I still heart Nuffnang because they got me the pair of tickets to the event. As a matter of fact, I think they are better dressed than the winning male and female. Hehe.. So, what else can you complain?:P

Guess what? It's Frankie!!
And above is the best dressed couple! Remember Frankie, my Project Trafford group mate? What a "lucky" chap to get a partner matching his outfit. By the way, it's Kulvinder/Ohkulala beside him. Frankly speaking, his attire looks just OK if it stands alone. But as a couple attire? Whew!!

After the dinner, we headed straight into GSC Pavillion to watch the movie "Made of Honor". The noisy bagpipers were there to greet us again just at the entrance of the cinema. There were a few cinema halls to house all of us, and I got Hall 13. The movie was good, should recommend to other girls since they offer a classic chick flick. Otherwise, don't go for it. It's just a guy's fantasy(a loser to be specific). Patrick Dempsey's acting was so-so and his character's pickup lines were lame and unflirtatious. Of course, I'm speaking from the view of an ex-Flirt King, since when it comes to flirting, there ain't any rules. The movie emphasizes on some lame rules to get girls, and lame tricks to get to girls. Obviously the scriptwriter is a NERD!!!

The cinema hall 13

Whatever it is, it's fun to be in such a function after all. It sure is an unforgettable experience, especially when I get to experience it for free. Well, that's minus the payment for dresses and sandals my dear had to get for the function. So, I'm looking forward to the next one, Nuffnang's Wild "Live" Blogging!

And yes, I got to tempt Caryn to join Nuffnang! She's so interested in the Nuffnang Wild "Live" Blogging Party that she intend to join. Phew, so do I get any commision for converting her? XP

3B: Bouncy Beef Balls

This is a post dedicated to my friends overseas who had missed the chance of savoring local delicacies. To a friend who had introduced this place to me, but he has not tasted it for quite some time. This is the place I had been today while doing some shopping in Petaling Street.

Does this scene looks familiar? Ring any bell?

Heya there!! Don't remember me?

It's Shin Kee Beef Noodles Specialist!! For one may wonder, where the heck is this place? It's just located at Jalan Tun Tan Cheng Lock. One may not miss it if you smell your way there. Talking about it now makes me drool again, what else you readers who are not even in Malaysia especially, and had tasted it before.

I usually order kuey tiaw, but the mee noodles here looks appetizing. It's not the typical yellow noodles, so it is definitely delicious. Basically, there's 3 different types of noodles they offer, being beef noodles, beef balls noodles and mix beef noodles. (It's just the same to me anyway)

The place is rather small, being a tiny shop which can fit in 30 people at most anyway. Fret not, for people can't stay long there. People come and go very fast to make way for new customers as the place is somewhat maintained to be just comfortable enough to enjoy a meal and no more than that.

The beef slices there are quite tender and crunchy. I wouldn't miss the chance to dip it in the chilli sauce which made it even more delicious. The beef balls are so bouncy that one can't resist to have more. The minced meat that came with the noodles just made it to the seventh heaven as I even gulped down the whole bowl of soup/broth. It's safe to say that I don't feel really thirsty after that, clearing it of any heavy usage of MSG. However, a glass of cold "Lo Hon Guo" wouldn't hurt and chill your body on a hot day.

The only thing that hold some people back is the price at RM5 per bowl. I do find it the food worth it though. So, I won't hesitate for a second bowl on a day when I'm starving.

So, how much drool have left your oral cavity? Care to tell us? X'P

Black is coffee!!

Hey guys, I'm back here!! This is one special post actually.
Dedicated to my TARC junior (perhaps ex-jr?) also a.k.a Science and Maths Society Secretary --> Yvonne!! Was planning to go back home from Times Square when I decided to drop by Maluri Jusco. (Okay, different way, but trust me, I'm more used to the road from Times Square to Cheras than to my own home *wink*) It was around 3.15pm, tea-time I supposed.. Jeng jeng..here's the pic which she's gonna KILL me for posting it here. Somebody, STOP me!! Hehe.. (P.S. You're the one complaining the lack of pics here, so I figured to put your photos here n_n")

Welcome to Starbucks!!
(A bit blur pic cos was trying to take a quick shot)

Attending a customer --> Expert Yvonne on the move!!

In fact, she made a Banana Javachips Frappucino Blended
Coffee just for me F.O.C.! How often would I get them. Feel malu la, wanna pay but she's the cashier, can't force a cashier, later people think I'm robbing!! Promise to belanja you next time k!! Anyway, just a bit of comment, the JFBC abbrv looked more like JBFC(Johor Bharu Football Club) to me..n_n"

Specially blended from Yvonne in cute green uniform!!

There's a 'YM' on top. See it?

See the light on top of her head? Don't be surprised, she's got a halo!!

Angelic!! n_n"

Then they had a coffee tasting session. Well, the coffee tasted
like... coffee. The first step in tasting is to smell it with a hand clasping 3 quarter of the mouth of the cup, like something you would do while sniffing durian. n_n" Then slurp it so you could distribute it evenly on the tongue? Seriously, I thought there was problem with my tongue when I only tasted the bitterness at the middle back of the tongue (Posterior-medially), cos usually I'll taste bitterness everywhere whenever I'm having bittergourd soup. Haha... By the way, let me try to recall what I heard. It's a Caffe Verona, 80% Yukon Blend, 20% Italian Roast, a romantic coffee usually for Valentine's Day, goes better with chocolate cookies or caramel. Personally, I think it goes good with anything chocolate! Tasted better than the usual Mocha I would have ordered. Otherwise, it would be bitter like a typical coffee (means biasa aje la...like Yvonne said.. hehe), perhaps with a slight blend of unique taste. Maybe that's why this coffee is so 'romantic'. Love is like coffee. It keeps you awake. It keeps you motivated. It's bitter, yet everyone loves it. Before you try it, you won't crave for it. The more you have it, the more you're addicted. Even when it's gone, the taste still lingers around, until you find another replacement. And lastly, without it, u'll die, with it, u'll also slowly die.. Lol...
Had some chat there, and seems like she's really
having fun there. She IS having FUN actually. Seem a long time haven't see her. But then, she's still the same fantastic and jovial person. Or I haven't seen the other side? Hehe... Oh yeah, sorry if ter'kacaui'ng you cos made you break 'overtime'. -.-" All the best, Perhaps we shall meet another time soon.
P.S. Oh ya, the Banana JFBC tastes fantastic. With that amount of coffee and banana, I feel like monkeying around all night long!! *wink*
