The End of Agony

5
After braving through a 4-days ordeal with much relent, the Seminar Pendedahan Kursus Kesihatan Kebangsaan UKM has come to an end. Much efforts and migraine had been put in for some merits which was not actually desired upon, nevertheless brings a sense of satisfaction as the curtains were lowered, relieving the burden of 7 months. I must admit the students' lodging (Sekolah Menengah Sains Selangor) was the terrible and at its worst of all events ever seen, with the lack of water, power plug issues as well as the dilapidated basic amenities. Luckily I did not accept the offer to pursue my secondary years there in this boarding school. Even in our feedback forms, the rating for the lodging was 1/5, the least they could give, if not -5/5.

Being partially responsible for the flow of the programmes, I'm just glad that it is all over. The challenges in such an organization had always proved to be daunting, not because of the students, but of the superiors as well as the bother-not volunteers that kept pulling out at the last minute with all sorts of personal problesm, such unforeseen that they had only got to know about it right before any event that requires their help. And with a rather unorganized comiitee, it was a miracle that we scraped through all these and adapted to all sorts of challenges posed to us and to treat as it never happened.

Officiation ceremony

Setting up for the telematch.. :P

VICO drinks, all thanks to Sze Wern(left) for looking up for the sponsorship.

All thanks to my committee members who continued to do a great job even with my absence. :P
And to my dearie dear who was the planner. (I'm just the executioner)

All I could wish is that the students could really gain something out of this, enabling to expose them to the multidisciplinary aspects of the health field which does not comprise of only doctors and nurses or pharmacies, but to explore the possibilities of other careers unheard of, such as physiotherapist, speech therapists, occupational therapists, audiologist, optometrists, and even to careers in the gray area of understanding, such as dietitician and nutrition. At least, they should know that doctors/pharmacists are not just shopkeepers waiting for customers to sell rice.

At least, I am able to be involved in such events, though not the proudest moment, but it would one of the trails of my doings. Life, afterall, is not measured by the number of times our hearts beat, but the moments which set our hearts blazing in emotions to a halt.

The Litter-ate Citizens of the World

Referring to: DBKL hits out at litterbug-partygoers

Yes, it's you, you and you. I'm sure each and every one of us had at least thrown a sweet wrapper off the streets. While it is tempting to free our hands of any trash burden, be reminded that we citizens have the responsibility to throw it at the designated places. If our environment is unclean, would it not attract the colonies of LILATI (Lipas, Lalat and Tikus), hence endangering our health as well? Has no one ever thought of that beforehand? I've even known some friends who wash their hands more than 5 times a day for hygiene purposes, and yet still litter as he/she goes. Have we forget that dengue fever has been on the rise lately? Would we be holding ourselves responsible for such incidences, instead of pointing fingers at the mosquitoes as the culprit? Aren't we ashame of ourselves?

And there is always no end to such cycles of hopelessness, no matter where you are. Well, except for Singaporeans of course, credits to their strict laws who force their citizens to abide by it. For once, they are equally as uncivic when they set foot on the manland of Malaysia, contributing equally as much litter on the street if not more than an average Malaysian would do. Huh.. What is there to be proud of to be the best, when they are just "First World Citizens, Third World Tourists." :P

Christmas Cheers

Merry X'Mas to all my friends who would be celebrating the day of joy and vacation. I'm sure we Malaysians would be enjoying all sorts of festivities as we celebrate diversity among us. Sometimes, it does not matter which religion we're in, but these are the common things we share our joy in. Whether if it's a party, a gathering, a lover's night with turkey(s) or chicken or ducks, be thankful for all the friends around us.

And here is also a Birthday Wish to my Daughter, Flora, which we won't be able to celebrate with her since she's in the UK. Please do come back 1 day for your birthday or to visit your "Father", since I'm waiting for "duit saku". Hehe..

Until then, see ya guys again. This blog may be on hiatus too for the future 8-10 weeks, but with possible updates when I had the time. Until then, take care!! :P

Of Pranks and Humor

16
Being an insulted blogger is a major thing.

Being insulted by a dedicated hate-fan is also another big thing.

But for me, the best thing that could ever happen is to have someone taking all the effort to hide his/her identity and to create multiple split personality to let you know that the world hates you.
And the futile attempts just went down the book of humor as the blogger is not really any Tom, Dick and Harry.

Recently for the past 2 weeks, I had been randomly insulted a few times over old posts dating back 2 years ago. The insult did surprised me initially, but I'd no idea what was he talking about, because obviously, those posts weren't the ones that triggered his hatred. It was a random blabbing without the use of any part of the brain, which I had considered the fact to refer him/her to Prof Hamidon(UKMMC Neurologist who's going to Putra Court Medical Center in KL soon) for further assessment. But then, why waste time for such when we as humans always have better things to do and greater glory and deeds to pursue?

Anyway, I've pinpointed the suspects to 2 recent posts I have written as the ones with the most controversy. Whether if it's the post on NameWee the sickened fiend, or or the post on the recent landslides which some victims may have felt insulted over the comment. Well, or perhaps, I am just hated because I am too darn handsome and gorgeous to overshadow the hate fan.

Haha, just kidding on the last part. Please be able to differentiate irony and sarcasm between the lines, unlike the hate fan who was not able to do so. It gives chill down the spine when someone could write in proper English but yet not able to understand the meaning behind words in the very same language.

Anyway, here's the comments that I'd took the effort to drag out of the old posts, along with the links to the dated said posts.

April 14, 2006 - Tiring Day
Comment: u seem to gloat about your 5As and laugh at other people ? well, i got straight As since i was a kid. so fuck off!

July 16, 2006 - 2 Weeks in UKM
Comment: only managed to get to UKM ? hahahahahah!!!!!!!!
what a prick! is tat why u like to laugh at people ?

September 14, 2008 - Meet Wong Yee Ming
Comment: i have an engineering degree, PhD in statistics and am a Chartered Accountant. Currently working on my MBA thesis whilst working. So what ? you think you are special ? wake up kiddo, you are nothing more than a piece of cow crap.

Amusingly, the last comment was written from a newly created Google ID just for the sake of hiding his/her own identity? It's such an amusing fact if they are the same person, and took the effort to amuse me away from my stressful studies and routine. Until then, I'll just let the hate-fan do what it likes. :P

The Last Posting

3
Finally, I've made it somehow to the final posting of 3rd year, Internal Medicine. While I could not say that I look forward to it, it is not really a dreaded posting. Maybe it's because I am looking past the posting, anticipating a 9-week holiday, one of the longest of all time. Of course, if I'd been doing an elective humanitarian posting (compulsory posting but we had the option to do it in end of 3rd year or 4th year), I'll be left with perhaps a 4 or 5 weeks holiday.

As they say, Medicine is the hardest posting, I'm going to experience it and to be the judge myself. I'm sure no matter bad it turns out, it wouldn't be worse than O&G which sucks out our life and mental capability to remain sane, nay? :P

So, I'll cross my fingers and wish for the best, and hoop la, before I'll know it, I might be in the 4th year very soon!! On a bright note, I've completed more than 50% of my course already. Wouldn't that fit as a pass? n_n

Stop The Nonsense And Power Monopoly!

I refer to the article “TNB has to pay IPP for excess power” on 12th Dec 2008 with a pinch of utmost disbelief. It is not a disaster in horror but seem more of a ploy to increase its tariff on consumers again. TNB mush have lack a team of economists as their financial advisor to have lash out such a statement. While the extra electricity was a failure of management and a bad business move, the cost cannot be transferred to the consumers, just in view of the short term loss. Every Tom Dick and Harry would have known that the price is determined by consumer’s demand, not due to excessive supply.

If TNB is incapable of managing its resources, I suggest that they keep it to themselves or lower the tariff to encourage a higher consumption, although it is not the best move for the efforts done for conservation of energy. Perhaps, one would not be able to see that if TNB had their way now by increasing the tariff, they will be laughing their way to the bank in 2011-2012 as their capacity had been reached. Would they have the hearts to lower the tariff by then? I doubt so, as they will be claiming that inflation and higher cost of living will render it an unfeasible move.

Do not forget that the recent increase of tariff has been a burden to the consumers. While they use the increase in petrol fuel as a reason for increase in tariff, they were not able to lower the tariff when global fuel prices lowered. The reason cited was that there is no correlation between fuel and electricity at all. Do they hope that such a statement had gone unnoticed?

Now, I’d hope that the monopoly of TNB should be abolished and let there be at least some healthy competition. We do not want to have an “inefficient” company managing our resources. The best example would be Malaysia Airlines which had been able to be competitive ever since AirAsia has entered into the fray. Wouldn’t that be a good idea?

By the way, here's the same article published in the Opinion section in The STAR.

The Day The Earth Weren't Still

It is of course, of utmost grief to hear the news that another landslide had befallen at Bukit Antarabangsa. While it is an uncommon incidence in relative to flash floods, it has never failed to claim the lives of a few who are less unfortunate, and tremendous losses to many, in terms of dollars as well as the traumatic experience. And of course, there are many more who were cut off from civilization as electricity and water supply was cut off while the road was blocked by the landslide. Whatever safety guaranteed of any hillside projects would not garner trust from potential homeowners for these few years at least, thus impeding the trade of hillside houses.

And then, housing development continues as buyers flocks to purchase such "high class" houses regardless of safety issues. Landslides occurs one fine day and the fear continues before subsiding again, causing an endless cycle of landslides and calamity. When would people realize that such endless claims of life and assets can be stopped if it weren't there in the first place? Is greed really that all powerful to overcome human's sense of conscience? Must the whole hill collapse so that there is an absolute stop to such nuisance?

An insurance agent of a major insurance company who do not wish to be named claimed that most of her clients in that particular area did not even have insurance coverage for landslides, refuting it as a waste of money. Many claimed with many reasons how their houses are "landslide-proof", whether it is of weather, fengshui, geographical or technological reasons, but all they had not known was it is not foolproof. Pitting your life against nature is not a wise idea, although hillside sure have the advantages of being flood-free. It would be wiser to avert disaster by staying in low lands or it would safe to presume, anywhere far from sea and hills than pointing fingers at the authorities with legal action threatened in the face of the government. Is it worth it to claim that amount of money if either the lives of you or your beloved ones are gone?

On the bright side, it gave a chance for our search and rescue teams to hone their skills and efforts. Without such calamity, there would not be ample practice for all of them in needy times, given a prolonged duration of inactivity. Not to mention the fact that all medical personnel in the 3 hospitals involved were denied leave for Hari Raya Haji just to give their full attention to strangers in need. There is always a chain reaction of involvement when it comes to such tragedy, as it does not just stop there. Huge copters for search and rescue were seen on the football field of SK Ulu Kelang whichcaused a considerable amount of traffic jam due to curious passerbys. The cause and effect of each action never fail to lengthen just like a thread from a spider.

For me, I personally would stay off such hills due to lack of convenience and too far from civilization. Exclusiveness is a synonym for inconvenience and ruralilty comes to mind. Of all matters, I wouldn't mind buried 6 feet under on a hillside in Nirwarna. At least, a dead man can't die twice, nay?

How Are You?

These words hold the power of concern when it was being wielded in the olden times. We really want to know how is a person doing, and what has he or she has been up to. Therefore, we throw this simple question into the pit and voila, a pretty decent conversation starter to rekindle old friendship.

Unfortunately, many would be puzzled, for it is now overly used in daily conversation. How often do you get an answer from that question apart from "I'm Fine" as in "Hi" followed by "Good Bye"? In fact, the person who asked in the first place do nt even intend to know, perhaps just to break the routine of Hi and Byes with a slight variation.

Well, that's at least better than some who may even expect to be asked in return for them to retell a story so long as a series of Hong Kong TVB drama, the one as long as The Condor Heroes series. It could start off like:

A: Hi, how are you B? Long Time no see.
B: Well, I'm fine. What about you?
A: Oh, I had the best day of my life. You know, blah..blah..blah..
A: Life is tough, and blah blah blah...
A: I'm the best, bah blah blah..
A: You know, I'm blah blah blah...
A: The boss praised me. blah blah blah..
A: Everyday, I blah blah blah...

And there goes a few hours of Public speaking one-sided talking, telling purely on oneself. While it is safe to say 80% of such are non-bloggers, there are still a meagre 20% who still adhere to this customary communication. And as age catches up, people start exhanging the phrase "How's your son/daughter?" and on they go with their own children, telling of their "successful" stories. Given ample time to live, they would be retelling even the legends of their great great grandchildren.

And please, "How Are You?" is not a pickup line as being used by jerks who had no other lines in mind. It's no lamer then the line "Hi, my name's Moto Moto, so good you have to say it twice" from Madagascar 2, but it'll be enough to raise a few eyebrows and wrinkles from the forehead.

Or perhaps, the phrase had been commonly used by politicians in their attempt to garner votes, which literally translated to "Remember me, you arsehole, and vote for me."

I could go on and on about it, but I guess my readers (you) get the point. It's always been refreshing to hear some thoughts from the floor (literally), so what say you about it?

And now, while many may be beguiled by the the numerosity of meanings lying in this ancient text of wisdom, do not be disheartened to ask "How are you?" to any friends you met on the street. Just remember to add in a little bit of concern into that phrase. Who knows, perhaps that one friend may be needing it as he/she may be on a verge of severe depression.

So, let's get the ball rolling.

How are you?
