So Sick

1 am in the morning. I seldom sleep so late. But,
thanks to my roomate, I'm becoming a night ghost. Trying to 'fix' my internal biological clock, but I saw the blog counter reaching 600 views. Hooray! First, I would like to thank myself for continuouslt viewing my own blog, because I think the 400 belongs to me. n_n" My own blog is the gateway to other people's blog. Next, to all my phantom readers, who never introduce yourself or leave any comments. Whatever, this is just a personal blog cum diary. Thanks for your support. Gosh, I'm too crazy, so sick.

How's my progress for the study leave, one would ask.
I just laze around more than study. Anyway, just flipped and flopped the pages. Done 'Membranes and Receptors' (Pharmaco and Physio module) and 'Body Tissue' (Physio+Biochem+Histo), and I'm not sure how much I will absorb given such a short time. Genetics will the last, since it's still fresh. Got to start the 'Cellular Biomolecules' tomorrow. Then PPD syallabus, Clinical Skill, Tamadun Islam.. Warggh.. Help!! I'm already having enough headache today. Maybe due to dehydration. -.-" And I wonder how long do I need to do this. Haha.. Actually, I don't mind, provided I'm staying in my home sweet home. Hostel environment is just not conducive. Too stressful, with a TOP BOY in the same room. I think I should correct that. TOP STUDENT. Whenever the exam is hard, you'll hear "Aiya, this time cannot get A already la." And if it's considerable easy, you'll hear "Aiya, many people will get A already la". -.-" I mean, what's wrong with everyone getting A? Seriously, I don't mind. I prefer everyone happy. Haha... So I just need to sabar 5 more months. I always thought I'm crazy enough, now I really understand the Chinese saying of ‘ 一山比一山搞’. Keke... Plus, the next door always got mesyuarat ketua jabatan with Dekan. I guess I'm the only ketua jabatan who seldom go for meetings, with the laughter of Yi Hui the loudest. I'm not the one complaining, Kuan Yew was the one complaining from 3 rooms away. Lolz..

It's already 1.30am. I think I should force myself
onto bed. Before this, allow me to change the lyrics of a nice song to suit my mood now. From Ne-Yo - So Sick:

And I'm so sick of studies
So tired of tears
So done with wishing I won't be here
Said I'm so sick of studies so stress and slow
So why can't I throw off all the books?

Gotta fix that calender I have
That's marked Nov 27th
Because soon there's no more you
There's no more exam
I'm so fed up with my thoughts of you
And my memory
And how every fact reminds me
Of what used to be

That's the reason I'm so sick of studies
So tired of tears
So done with wishing I won't be here
Said I'm so sick of studies so stress and slow
So why can't I throw off all the books?

*Note: Just a prank. Don't take it too seriously n_n"

I guess I'm just way too bored.. Took so many trivial tests and post it up..zzzz....

Tamadun Islam

Guess I have nothing to write this time. Trying to
read TITAS for the coming exam, which we were supposed to study for the whole semester. All of us, I believe, will be attempting the suicide last minute attempt. But of course, we have network in Bangi UKM who had taken the paper. They were kind enough to give the tips, but in the end we still had to read everything, not much difference. -.-"
Talking about exam, got my last module's results. I got a B.
Not bad, considering that I've tried my best in a way. Of course many people will have the question mark on their face when I got my B. Many others got A, A-, and B+. Hehe.. Only God and me knows the exact answer. Even if I write it here, no one would understand how my brain functions. 1+1 does not always equals to 2. Will try hard again for Genetics, but of course, the aim is definitely not A anyway. Hehe.. Got to revise my previous modules, otherwise pass also cannot. Haha..
Went to HUKM for the Polymerase Chain Reaction
experiment. After that, we were exposed to those expensive equipments. DNA sequencer worth around RM800,000 and there's two there. (I'm not sure whether if it's really worth that much or half the money went 'missing') And there's the 'beam-me-up equipment (I forgot the name of it) that can select the area of tissue for inspection for cancer mutation and the lasers will cut through that area and shoot it up to a special platform, or that's what I heard. That cost RM1 million too. And the RNA analyser which could also analyse DNA as well, worth a few million bucks. Man, I can live happily with that amount of money. Wahaha...
So, in the end, that's all for today's short post. Plan to buy
the novel written by Adibah Amin, titled "This end of the rainbow". Guess it will be a good book, so I'm looking forward it to replenish my soul. God bless the flirt king.

Sunshine
As good as it sounds, but I am just not in the sunshine
mood. Just not in the mood to blog, but I am forcing my fingers on the keyboard, refusing to let go, until my Bleach manga download is finished. Meanwhile, my downloads on House MD season 2 episode 6, Lost season 3 episode 5 and Smallville season 6 episode 5 as well as Bleach and Naruto anime download. Perhaps that will be how I compensate for all the hardwork on weekdays. Tomorrow is the exam for Persatuan Pelajar, and yet here I am, crapping in front of the screen.
Went to Putrajaya to attend a career talk. All UKM
medic students were to go there (Got some kaki ponteng, though) Wow, there IS still a CAREER TALK for us? Yeap, by the Ministry of Health, trying to 'brainwash' us so that we will stay and work for the goverment. All the promise of better pay, better insurance, and our choice of specialisation. As if we will know what are we doing by then. We will definitely need to pass and graduate 1st, then only think much of it. It's still a long way to go. -.-" Anyway, free lucnh was provided. Oops, did I mentioned free lunch? Barely. We were given lunch because we listened to the talk. Remember, there is no free lunch in the world.
First week of genetics. Felt quite relaxed, as if I had covered
everything. The problem is to remember everything so that I won't flunk in the exam. Still need some brushing up. There's where the problem lies. Kiasu people will always be kiasu people. Still trying to get rid for the most of it. Thought I had get rid 99%, but seems like the 1% is starting to grow into 30%. What a jerk. Trying to suppress it because I know it will impede my performance anyway. God knows why, but I don't think anyone would like to bother about it.
Going on to another interesting news. I just went to HUKM
for the first time as a medical student. The last session of our clinical skill session, to interview actual patients. My group was to go to Surgery Ward 7 (Otorinolaringologi -ENT) in level 5. The place where my grandmum went for her surgery few years back, after which had influenced my choice to enter UKM. Auji, my partner wasn't here because the 2nd bus were too late. So, I had 'my' patient all by myself. An old Chinese Guy. He spoke Mandarin and greeted me. Me, being honest, introduce myself as 1st year student (Luckily he didn't got shocked). He was a nice and friendly guy, being quite healthy with no obvious symptoms of aging from his movement. Here is my finding:

History of presenting illness:Mr Tam Chun, a 77 year-old retired Chinese male restaurant owner was admitted to the ENT department in HUKM on the 1st of November 2006, presenting with a swollen right neck for a week, 4 days after he had an extraction of the bottom right wisdom tooth. He complained of a mild headache, particularly at the occipital area, fearing that the suspected tooth infection might interfere with his brain function. He had no dysphagia nor dyspnoea. Previously, he had undergone a blood test from the area of his right sowollen neck on the 28th October 2006 as an outpatient. CT scan and Ultrasound scanning revealed no confirmatory diagnosis, with the only finding of 3 "tumor-like" growth on his right swollen neck. He is due for a fine needle aspiration cytological test on the 3rd of November for the abcess on the right sowllen neck, mainly for biopsy reason to check for malignancy.
Past Medical/Surgical History: No history of any chronic medical illness. Had a surgery for Intra-Medullary Nail insertion into his right femoral bone in 2000 in Hospital UM due to a fracture got from falling from a bicycle. He is not on any medication.
Past family history: There is no cause of multifactorial inheritance. Parents died of old age. His wive is 75 years old, who had underwent 2 surgery before in HUKM, colonectomy and a right knee-joint replacement. He has 3 sons who are working and healthy, along with theor wives. He has 5 grandchildren. He is currently living with all his 3 sons in Paramount Garden. He has no allergy.
Social history: Retired. Goes for jogging everyday, and helps in minding his grandchildren. Smokes an average of 10 cigarettes a day and was a social drinker before he quitted drinking.

Yes, I took all tese, but to no avail. I wouldn't know what is his
illness, and I won't be able to give out any differential diagnosis. It's just to train our interaction skill. Even if I'm to diagnose him, I would only guess that he had a tooth infection, probably due to bacterial infection which causes his lymph nodes to enlarge, causing the swell on the right neck. Headache? Maybe just due to the infection. Treatment? Just give antibiotics. And don't ask me what antibiotics. I wouldn't know either. I'm just 3 months into the course. It's kinda fun relating back to the incident, but my future is just so bleak. I'm too overwhelmed by so many things coming into my head at one go. God bless.

Rankings?

World Uni rankings means nothing to me. Yeap. That was what I said in one of my post centuries ago. Brought in by the propaganda, I don't need people to tell me which is good. I do my own homework. Nevertheless, I'm sure there is a commotion of the latest world ranking. I'm taken by surprise too, because UKM has risen so fast up the ranks. What? Did they pay the QS to elevate it? Nah, don't think UKM is that capable. Or overseas propaganda? Nah, UM is worthless to bring down. It's just the pride of most local Malaysian grads (not me though). Or somehow they just struck the jackpot? Weird. The truth is out there, and until I 'out' there then, I won't be able to find it out. Been browsing the Times online (free 14-days with my multiple accounts, for evey time I wanted to see it) and saw the rankings for Science, Biomedicine and Technology, the 3 latest list. As usual, none of the local public Uni is in the technology list. But, UKM is 62nd on the Science Uni list, with UM on the 95th. Surprise!! Nah, just kidding. UKM was in the top 100 last year, a minor improvement means nothing. But I guess UM will be celebrating again for the '95th' position again. Haha.. Back to the last list? Biomedicine. It was the list where UM excel in top 100 last year and they boast of their medic course, by the way. I guess they must have handicap other uni, cause they are not in it this year. And my my... I was looking at Nottingham Uni at 51st (a surprise for an engineering uni to get into top 100 for biomedicine but not in Technology, maybe there's another column for engineering, I guess.), then I saw Malaysia!! UKM in 56th!! At the moment, I was looking for UM. There, I saw another Malaysia!! At 95th placing. But, I realised it's not UM, it's USM. Lolz.. USM is on the rise too? Have to say so. I know UPM and USM will rise too, but UKM will lead the rise because it's the oldest after UM (by a merely 10 years, of course, by excluding the years UM WAS in Singapore, which is the current NUS). In the end, the rankings does not really reflect anything real. The standards of all public Uni will be more or less the same one day, and it won't rise too high, because of our rules and regulations. Yet, there is one thing that matters, UM's pride has been hurt. Sayonara, I don't want to listen to any people boast about UM. All public Uni grads are even.
