Lorong Peel Yong Tow Foo

1
As much have been said on Yong Tow Foo, this has been acclaimed as one of the famous place, or rather established ones in KL. Well, being a KL guy I am, I would rather say that this is a place I've been only a few times. Well, there's many YTF in KL, and I reckoned you wouldn't need to travel that far to get something a little bit better (or could have been worse).

Anyway, last Friday, the current Ortho posting's Makan gang got my dear and I out for lunch here. So I figured this is the chance for me to get to know how exactly to get there through the "backdoor" as Thomson liked it. :P

Wah Kiow Hakka Yong Tow Foo

All the Yong Tow Foo in preparation

Waiting enthuasistically for food initially. Not included in the snap is the handsome me and no one else. Yea, I mean, no one else. :P

And wait..and wait.. and wait... everyone seems bit tad bored...

Then comes the food...

And more...

And the savory asam fish for the cats.. :P

Basically, I would say that some of the YTF were not bad and tasty. Of course, apart from the lack of variety which includes the absence of soup dumpling (only fried), they would have done better by including pictures for those first timers to decide. Everything's fried there, so it gets rather heaty.

And back to my own verdict, I would still prefer the YTF opposite my housing area or the YTF in Ulu Kelang by the MRR2 road. Because they're nearer. Anyhow, since my Mom also makes YTF, I think Mom's the best after all. It's not that I'm used to my mom's cooking, but my mom's got used to our tastebuds. I remembered the days when she used to make it often because she was learning. And my Dad and I were the lab rats. Now I think it got better. :P

Eh? Where's my portion of YTF, pup? Finish everything ady ah... :(

Without any updates in the blog, it has become obvious that blog block occurs with time as the exam season is around thecorner. Anyway, I'll just keep updated with some photos again. After all, people prefer photos over lengthy words which might even requires continuous flicking of the pages in that age-old dictionary.

The special one who received the roses.

No prizes for guessing where this is, but here's a snap of the fried country shrooms.

An advertisement? :P

The movie watched that day.

Seriously, UP is another renowned show of PIXAR. Just as any other PIXAR animation, it had a simple storyline, no complicated twist here and there. But it has always been the magnificient ability to present a story so simple but yet so great that marvel the audience worldwide. It's hard for me to rate any of the PIXAR movie, but each has its own uniqueness. And one thing for sure, this is one rare story which would bring tears in the 1st 20 minutes of the show. Trust me on that unless you're cold hearted. :P

Yesterday

Dear Readers,

This would be the last post of the stream that filled this blog to the maximum displayed post.
And it all started with food and food and food.

Today ward ended early, so my dear and I went for lunch. With the usual where to eat, the car brought us to Pudu for Chee Cheong Fun. The famous one. Oer the years, the food got more pricey, and the quality deteriorates bit here and there. Somehow, the stream of customers are still there. Yesterday was no different, but the Yong Tow Foo was generally nice and the Chee Cheong Fun which was served with dried shrimps were still good amidst lacking the perfection years ago. So below are the pics:

Yap Hup Kee

But anyway, it was RM 12+ for the 2 of us, rather reasonable compared to other food. A place worth visiting if you don't mind looking hard for parking. :P

Then, dinner was in Santai where we'd celebrate Sze Wern's birthday. But this time, it was just the two of us, to try the other cuisine from the place.

A hungry lady is no less grumpier than a man.

Pallatable "Santai fried rice". A decent one although not spectacular

Sizzling hot noodles in black pepper sauce.

Food can work wonders, and make a grumpy man lady happy.

Overall the food was decent for its price, ranging from Rm5-20 (local food to steaks, etc)
And that's without government tax or service tax, so saving 15% off the bill. And way much nicer than hostel food. :)

And night time, we'd to attend the launch of PERSIAP's zero repeater's campaign.

And that's when we had to come back late on Friday night. *sigh*

I guess that's all for now, as I've been rushing through the posts with photos. There are actually 2 more intended posts, of Sze Wern's birthday celebration and our my community project in SMK Seri Tasik on stress management last Wednesday. But well, I guess I wouldn't want to tire you reader's eyes for now. So I guess that's all. :P

PICC Dinner

Last Sunday night, it was our college (hostel)annual dinner in Putrajaya Convention Center (PICC). Why so grand, you'll ask. That's because it's the 10th anniversary, because there was no dinner last year (allocated funds rolled over to this year) and actually, PICC was cheaper than the usual ballroom, they said.

I'd no objection whatsoever, but PICC is indeed rather far. Even if it is cheap, the petrol cost was a definite setback.

My dear and I reached there as early as 5pm because we had to pass the multimedia video of the night. Nevermind they pay Rm300+ for a lossy project that I can do as well, and nevermind that Putrajaya is one of the last place one would like to stay indeed.

The very fact that I'd encounter problem is that Putrajaya is HUGE. You spend more petrol from one place to another because they want you to enjoy the scenery. This means no walking is feasible without breaking much sweat.

And the irony that there are very few petrol stations in Putrajaya. It took 20 minutes drive from PICC to the nearest petrol station which was like 15 km away. PICC was in Precinct 5 (ala Seksyen), but I'd to go to Precinct 8 (the 2 precints are not next to each other) to pump the car up. At least in Wangsa Maju or any other place in KL, you'll see more than 10 petrol stations from the same distance. This shows how dead is the place.

And I might as well equate Putrajaya with Atlantis, looks grand but well, a dead "tenggelam" city.

Anyway, the ballroom was no doubt grand, even after so many years. Maybe it shows how lack of use it was.

A masterpiece of a lifetime. And I don't mean the sculpture on the left. :P

The night's menu all in the "UFO" serving, decent food but well, eating at 9.30pm wasn't decent though.

The start of the night

A picture of my dear again. :P

Another picture that I like. The person on the left. :P

Well, we ecaped the wrath of the night by driving there, which meant we drove back. Reached back around 12am while those coming back by bus arrived at KTDI around 1.30am. a night where I remember most wore black, and the girls were dressing to kill the guys with their dresses, for better or for worse. :P

MinMax Halal Dimsum

Last Saturday, went for Dimsum in MinMax restaurant in PNB Darby. The heck with the "Halal" signage, one might think, or the fear of losing the authenticity "touch" of pork. But with the flow of swine flu recently, I guess many would prefer Halal Dimsum with the thoughts of pork for once.

Well, this is the place for you then. Despite the scarcity(basically none by the way) of pork, it retained the freshness and the savory taste of dimsum in most of the dishes. Well, the downside is that without pork, the choices are fairly limited to around 15 dishes, while a non-halal dimsum restaurant can serve up to 20-30 dishes, including the pork ribs. Nevertheless, it was enough for my tastebud. Plus, MinMax compensate with a variety of non-dimsum dishes, which ought to be enough to stimulate your salivary glands with a look at the menu.

And yes, we did order char siew pau.

And of course, it's chicken flavor. Wonder how can it taste like char siew when it's made of chicken. Hmm... Indeed food for thought. Or rather food for my hearty tummy. :P

Overall, I'd rather say it's one of the most recommendable place for dimsum, especially for Muslim friends. Some thumbs up and a few thumbs down, but it would be a restaurant worth revisiting. Furthermore, there's not many halal Chinese dimsum cuisine anyway. Considering that it's a restaurant in a hotel, one would expect cutthroat prices. But well, most of the dimsums are priced at Rm2.90 (excluding taxes), which is a rather reasonable price. Nowadays, even roadside dimsum sell for Rm3.80 (despite no tax charges). So, I'm rather surprised that it's at a rather affordable price for dimsum. Now this Halal signage is what I deem worth mentioning.

Forensic agony

A greeting card of inappropriate time orientation

The impact of H1N1 on Med students

Histrionic drama:
  1. Student with possible contact with H1N1 virus (with a mask)

  2. Attempt to scare others

  3. An annoyed fellow coursemate

  4. 3 days later: Infected?? Came down with "common cold"
  5. Baja Hitam or the bird beak fashion, N95 mask
I'm sure H1N1 is getting more rampant in Malaysia. In UKMMC, few 5th year had it, causing all of us to be under surveillance. Heard even O&G Green ward was quarantined as one of the patient had it. Medical ward had patients having it. And the case of dying H1N1 patient in ICU, not sure if it made its case into newspaper. Somehow seems under-reported to avoid fear from public, and each death must be associated with some pre-morbidity, down to the level of even high blood pressure! Come on, seek carefully and you'll find that most of us must have something "wrong" in our body. Guess this is what they call epidemiology: Retrospective guessing game.

So, everything's come down to a more cautious level. Let's hope we'll be able to brave through it.
