FAST FOOD HAZARD

Fast food ad has been banned from TV ads, being afraid of its
influence on little kids. But didn't you know the true meaning of fast food? I found the revelation just recently. Fast food means you have to finish it FAST!! Being too desperate for food, I grabbed my McD takeaway and drove all the way back home. It's just a 5 - 10 mins drive back, but still, I can't wait...

With the McChicken burger on my left hand and the large coke
on my right, I spread my legs apart so that my left knee and my elbows could steer the car as my right foot was on the accelerator. Everyone around was looking at me as the car wasn't on a straight line. And did I mentioned that I'm driving a manual car without power steering? This makes it FUN turning at the junctions. I couldn't let off my left hand as I was still munching the burger, so my right hand brought the gear down with the ring and little finger while the other 3 fingers were still holding the large coke. Then, with the same 2 fingers, steer a bigggg turn and shift the gear up again. It's a MIRACLE!!

After a few notorious turns without any honks from other cars, I reached
home, having finished my meal in the car. The fries were delicious too. Yummie... And when I look back, I could only smile. I'm just so Malaysian. Malaysia drivers are ruthless and reckless. I have to congratulate myself. That's what fast food are for anyway, for people on the move. And so I had realised, fast food could really be a safety hazard. Ever since, I support fast food ads ban in Malaysia. n_n"

Update

Alright, stop nagging. I know I've been missing out many
times lately. Can't really blame me. Even by now, I still have unfinished lectures waiting for me. This has been a tough module so far. Why? Because this is Musculoskeletal! Cramming everything in 4 weeks will not do, especially when time is the digesting factor. We are supposed to study system by system in the new syllabus, but they go part by part in each system, which means we're studying the innervation and blood supply. The muscle origin and insertion is already killing me. Oh my!

*Snap*

Back into reality, there's no time to whine, but more effort
needed. Went through two practicals looking at those prosected cadaver. Look see only, cos too many people. Plus, we haven't even know all the structures when we went in. All we could give are blank looks. The new lecturer, Dr Srjit Das, was very fast with his briefing and demonstration. His Indian accent is still audible, as he flipped through the cadaver's muscle layers swiftly just like a skilled butcher. Can't even really see how he did it. Guess he must have been doing a lot in India. n_n" The stench of formalin is still unbearable for me, but I know I won't be seeing much cadaver unless I'm in the forensic department. Lolz..

Oh ya, went to HUKM for IT class today. It was a real joke.
Can call it "IT classes for dummies". They were trying to teach us how to search information online using the search engines and recommend a few reliable websites. As if I'd never using search engines before. Then again, since there was a computer in front of me, me and Junnie use thed the google. What google? Google Earth!! we search for KTSN hostel, HUKM, our fac, my house and few more places. Guess we were too bored.

Driving back home was nostalgic. It's been very long since I'd
been driving back home from Cheras. Nothing much has changed, except for the flyover in front of Leisure Mall. I've only seen that once last year, when the construction finished. Forgot to mention, I tried a longer alternative today, and passed by Pusat Tuisyen Universal (If I'm not mistaken). Took quite some time before it struck my mind of its significance. Keke.. Anyway, past is past. So just let it be.

Bought a new 3-in-1 printer F380 yesterday. Been printing
a lot lately, so it came at a right time. I'm a HP fanatic, cos I support HP. Don't care, cos I feel its quality is better. My nores for this module is so colorful and attracting envious stares everywhere I show it off. Haha..just kidding.

So, looks like it's quite late now. I don't know why, but my
thoughts are disorganised. You can see from today's blog. But, I know, this is the order my brain always works. Front and back, skipping as it goes. No wonder I can flunk easily in essay. It's because of the failure to organise my thoughts. But I'm still happy with, not planning to ask for a refund. Bye, and goodnight.

Weird Stuff
Sorry for the long absence here. Been busy and fell sick for
2 weeks. So, I know a lot of things happened, but I'll just summarise them here.

1. Had a dengue scare right before Uni starts. Had a high grade fever not long after an episode of sever headache, which can be deemed as hyperthermia since it exceeds 40 celcius. A bit of muscle ache and backache. Diarrhoea for the first few days followed by constipation. Tireness of the body and mind, but my mind kept working. It was trying to work out the differential diagnosis. Suspected dengue or a flu or maybe perhaps viral meningitis since I got slight stiff neck and no obvious signs of bacterial meningitis. Could only wait for 4 days for the dengue rash to appear. But it didn't, so I guess it was just a weird kind of flu because I never had such experience before of a flu. It continued for 2 weeks with mild persistent fever. And oh yeah, I went to the doctor on the second day I got sick. Since there are no other symptoms yet at that time, he prescribed me with flu meds and antibiotics. It's just Loratadine(anti-histamine) and erythromycin. Crap, and I didn't finish the antibiotic course because it ain't working. Muahaha..

2.I got an A for the Infection and Immunity test. Weird one, cause I didn't study much as I've been away in Taiwan for a week. Guess it's just maybe sheer luck. I was just expecting a C. But who cares? I don't. My aim is still a pass in every single test and exam. (Which is C) Next week will be my Mechanism of Diseases test and also the start of anatomy of musculoskeletal.

3.Malaysia won the All-England doubles badminton after 25 years wait. Good thing. I look up on them, but as Malaysians, they will come down sooner or later. We are all known as Malaysia boleh SEMENTARA SAHAJA.

4. SPM results out. Seksyen 5 school, or known as gangster school by one of UKM JKM lecturer Dr Azmi (fat cranky guy), did quite well. Of course, the era of girl domination occur again. It took so hard for me and Calvin to break that for 2 consecutive years. And bu the way, I think I am the only 'top scorer' in Sek 5 who's not a prefect. That makes me the black sheep. (Yeah, I admit, I had more disciplinary problems than the problems of a few coursemates combined together. or maybe tens of them.)

5. STPM results were out too. Seems TARC had too high expectations from the juniors with their target last year, which was far better than my year. But anyway, congrats to them for finishing STPM, the so-called one of the hardest exam. At least you go through it. Life still goes on, and there's always a new path waiting for you whatever it is. It may not be the path that you desired, but it does not mean that it won't be better than the one you desired.

6. Alright, since I had free time, it's time to finish the thing that I owe the person who tagged me. Peng Le!! -.-" Now only I post it.

Each player of this game starts off with ten weird things or habits or little known facts about yourself.
People who get tagged must write in a blog of their own ten weird things or habits or little known facts as well as state this rule clearly.
At the end you must choose six people to be tagged and list their names. No tagbacks!

1. I do peek at people's exam answer if I don't know and I had too much free time.
2.I look at the mirror everyday just to look at the young handsome man standing in front of me. (Muahaha)
3. I am a book collector freak. I own an average of 2 books for each medical subjects. I own 4 anatomy books, 3 Pharmacology books, 4 Biochemistry books, 2 Genetics books, 2 Histology books, 2 clinical medicine books, 2 Pathology books, 4 books on Immunity and Microbiology, and many many more. Original ones, non-photostated. To date, they cost me more than RM2000 because I buy in Kamal Bookstore. It would be RM6000 at least if I buy at major bookshops such as Borders and Kinokuniya.
4. I can listen during lectures but it enters my left ear and exit my right ear, so I won't remeber them.
5.Day dream is not my hobby, it is a necessity.
6.I have poor memory which many would not believe.
7.Stay away from me when I'm sick. I want rest and care from people who are able to tend to my sick needs. Come any closer and you will regret for life. You won't like it when I'm angry.
8.I prefer company and friends around. But that does not mean I hate loneliness. I love them too.
9. I sing in the bathroom because I think I sing like a popstar there. But I know I am annoying my neighbors and could pose some healthhazard to them.
10.I think my neighbor's cat fell in love with me.

I know I should name 6 persons to be tagged but I don't know who to tag. So let's just say I name one and the first 5 readers of this shall be tagged.
First name: Wai Sun
Nest 5: You readers. Post a comment when you got tagged ya.n_n

Post-Taiwan

Been back for quite some time, but I guess I can't write everything here as words could not describe the joy and fun we had there. Salute group 10 EAMSC '07. You all ROXX!!! It'll be quite some time before I might meet you guys. Never knew that it would be this fun. Everyone were sporting, and it was here, I had my 1st exposure of someplace really out of Malaysia. I observe and learn a lot, especially about their University. Brag all you want about our local Universities, all my hopes had gone down the drain when I looked at Taiwan's hospital and Uni. It's definitely demoralising, but guess I will have to bear with it. Had pure fun there, which I really haven't had for a longggg time. Not to be mentioned, there's more above-average pretty girls there. Hehe...

Post-Module 2

Tried my best for the module. Answer all I can. Didn't have any pressure to do well or better. No matter how much we study and remember, we'll still be below par. Other better Universities did not emphasize much on pure mugging and they are not as technically sound as us, but yet they produce better docs. So is it really knowing everything matters? Don't think so. I think this causes me to be dejected such that I had no mood to even read more. I know it's not a good habit, but perhaps it develop cause I strectched myself too hard. Lolz.. I'll see how it goes.

Post-Valentine

A lonely Valentine. Spent it in Times Square alone, although did accompany coursemates for lunch. Alone by choice. Lonely by chance. Walking past the shops and up and down the escalators does bring back memories. I could only feel the 'missing' part in my life. Which I had left vacant myself. And there was nothing there at the 1st place. So, how could I missed something which was not there at the 1st place? Ironic. And life and fate always have their twist. She was there on that day too. With who, I don't know. But, the fact that 2 persons, were at the same place, but just could not bump into each other, for fate does not allow them anymore. Their fate has passed. There is no second chance. That was what that was told. The words were still fresh on my mind, and I had understand the consequences all this while. So, there's no regret, and neither there was chance to regret. That is the rule of the game. And I wonder how those Hong Kong shows can make 2 people bump into each other. Guess Hong Kong must be smaller than Times Square.

Pre-CNY

And here I am, reflecting on most of the things that had passed a long time ago. I'm due for a long period, and my writing skills are rustier day by day, to the extent of hour by hour. I don't know what should I do, for I am not a master in this. Let them come back to me naturally, if God is willing. With this, here I end my blog, as I'm not even in a CNY mood. Happy Chinese New Year.

Tiring Day(s)

It's been tiring for this week. It's just the second day
of the module, I can feel the heat. This module, "Infection and Immunity" is real hectic. So much to cover in so short a time. Today, I have to continue my read-up on two lecture topics when I had no whatsoever idea by the lecturer who spoke in British accent with the typical British lullaby as well. The topics are so new with so many new terms, it's almost a mission impossible to comprehend much of what she's saying. Even if you do understand the topics by reading up yourself, I doubt you can listen to her. It seems as if the words could enter your left ear and exit on the right immediately. I really doze off after not doing so for about a month. Am I just too tired? Plus, I had a practical session tomorrow which requires us to read up a 25-page material with pure facts and laboratory principles of around 8 methods? Please, I'm drowsy enough. And the addition of a self-learning package that is nevertheless fun,"Cells of the immune system". The only consolation was that I had read up for one of the lecture, the complement system which lasted an hour. The truth was I used up 2 days to digest it. With those classical, lectin and alternative pathways, step-by-step, along with its regulation factors, etc. And it went down with just an hour's lecture. Isn't it just absurd? I don't really think medic is tough. It's the amount of time that we had been deprived of! I'm working almost harder than STPM time. And later, I've to finish up the super-long assignment for PBL regarding meningitis. It seems easy, but with 8-9 causative bacterias, 4-5 viruses and 2 fungal infections, how do I complete everything? Each of its characteristics, pathogenesis, virulence factors, lab investigations, vaccination, management and so-on with its never ending list. I believe all can be done if I had more time! Everything is about DEADLINE!! Cross the line and you're DEAD!!

Anyway, enough said. That's for normal medic students'
life. With the preparations for the EAMSC in Taiwan, I had to work twice as hard, half the time. Still looking for the costumes. Got the number from Poh Jeann bout the House of Sabah to get the traditional costumes. Went to Taman Cheras Indah. It was above EON Bank, at Wisma Dergahayu. It was actually a Pejabat Perhubungan Negeri Sabah. Unfortunately, the officer in charge had to take an emergency leave, so I could do nothing. And oh, the unfortunate event today. I left my headlights on at the GH parking, so I couldn't start my car. Dad had to drive from home to jumpstart my car. So basically, the trip to Cheras was swift as I was in my dad's Waja, cruising at an average of 110km/h. Lolz... And now I had to find a way looking for music for the fashion show steps for the traditional steps. Heck, can't they just use simple catwalk? -.-" Haiz, here I am, going to continue my PBL. I'm late!!

Tomorrow's another assessment. I wonder what will it be.
The good news is that it's in the afternoon. So, I can sleep a bit later tonight. Not really that I'm worried bout my studies, but rather my clinical skills. This week is the start of group activity with my new PBL 5. No matter what, I still miss my old PBL group 18. We're just starting to get close enough and they had us separated and reshuffle the grouping. Anyway, I still prefer my old PBL because they are more harmonious even right from the start. We clicked on during discussion, and everyone introduce relevant discussion with stimulating discussion, especially on the learning issues. But now seems different. There's more and more questions thrown out during PBL but they remain mostly unsolved. I can help out, but how much can I contribute? Even if I answer all, I will be the dominating, no I am not exchanging information. I'm sure mine might not be 100% correct, but no one seems to be able to spot it if it exists. At least Jo Ee, Sze Wern, Auji, Pija, and a few more could point it out. I don't know, maybe I'm just not used to it yet. Maybe over time, it might not be that bad afterall.
And clinical skills? I suck at it. I just can't do history taking
in chronological order. Maybe I'm just not that person who will be meticulous enough. They want to train us to do a super thorough history taking, paediatrics for this session. I still like a free flowing questions, not according to the checklist, but there's too many things that need to be covered! I can't possibly memorise everything in that order? My CS facilitator is a surgeon, who graduate from Glasgow and did his Masters in UKM. He had the typical doctor charisma, and he's a cheeky one at times. I forgot his name though cause I was sitting the furthest away and can't listen clearly anyway. He asked a volunteer to take the patient's parent's role in the 2nd case scenario of fever, diarrhea and vomiting. I gleefully raised my hand and he asked me to take the doc's role. -.-" I still don't undertstand why do we need to get 'exposed' such early when we don't even know how to ask real relevent questions when it comes to differential diagnosis. We could give blind shots at it at most. And below is the checklist for the major things I had to ask:

History of Presenting Illness: Chief complaint ( Plus severity), Chronology (when it occurs, how often the discomfort occurs, whether continuous, intermittent, worsen, constant, better), Associated symptoms (headache, radiating pain, fever), relieving factor, aggravating factor, systemic rebiew (include activity, sleep, behaviour, etc), associated chronic illnesses. Even if it's a pain, we had to ask specifically what type of pain, whether if it's dull, sharp, throbbing, pricking, burning, cholicky, etc. -.-"

Past medical history: Any history of hospitalsation goes under here, including the reasons of admission, type of illnesses, and drug history.

Perinatal history (Special for paediatrics): We have to ask maternal illness, especially during the pregnancy, on any radiation and drugs. Plus, the place of birth, mode of delivery (natural or operational), birth weight, gestational period. Ater that, neonatal jaundice and other complications that may occur had to be asked too.

Dietary history: Duration of breast feeding and bottle feeding had to be taken into account. (Including the formula, frequency and amount) Weaning and current diet had to be taken note as well. Immunisation history of kids had to be confirmed too.

Developmental history: Here is the hard part. Major milestones in the kid's developmental. What if he/she was already 10 years old. Would the parents remember? Is it relevant? When the kid starts to talk, walk, socialising is weird. haha..

Family history: The whole family history had to be asked with a minimal of 3 generations. If I could, mayb I would ask for 18. Consanguinity of the parents had to be asked. Any family allergy or disease have to be checked carefully. Congenital anomalies? Yes too. And ask about the siblings as well, whether the mother had any miscarriages or still birth before.

Social history: Parental occupation, income, housing amenities, parental smoking, drinking or taking drugs or not, home environment and schooling. Not to be left out is child care.

Here, it might seem short, but nothing is. It takes at least half
an hour to finish it. And I sometime don't know how can I make it flow so smoothly. Perhaps one day I will find out. Let's just hope so. -.-"
