While today is not my first day in an operation theatre, let me share some of my experience with you. Caryn had mentioned that there was a public outrage in China when one of the doctors in a operation theatre was caught on a vidcam playing Snake or any other games with his handphone while an operation was going on. Wait till they see what actually happened in most operation theatres. Here's a few reasons why being a doctor in the operation theatre (OT) is a fancy job.
- Your patient won't complain or nag at you.
- You get to play your favorite music in the OT, whether it is hard rock, pop, or oldies and the patient won't bother.
- Your patient won't mind you singing.
- You get to wear your favorite pink slipper (as a guy) and no one bothers.
- As the anesthetist, you are mostly needed only at the start or the end of the surgery. Otherwise, you just need to check the patient's status once in a while, then continue with a Sudoku book or a handheld game waiting for it to be over.
- You get to flirt with the nurses and they won't risk scoffing you off because it might distract you from your surgery. Mind you. It's just you distracting yourself.
- Your patient won't scream at you panicking that they bleed. They will bleed after all.
- Stitching and removing sutures a few times because it is not decently done is not a problem, and the patient won't realize that you'd done any mistake in the OT. Well, unless you fix the wrong place, of course.
Anyway, proceeded to watch colonoscopy after lunch and it's not really fruitful. Patients who are going for colonoscopy have to fast for 1-2 days usually and only given water and glucose water. However, it seems that the patients did manage to grab a few bite of solid food and what we saw was a few lumps of solid shit in the bowel. The second patient was worse when his bowel was full of shit sticking to the bowel walls. There's nothing that can be seen. Poor doctor had to delay it again and tell the patients to fast, and they weren't embarassing at all to find themselves in deep shit!
So here's the report for today, as there was nothing productive done today. Since I'm so tired, guess I'll just sleep it off. Bye!!
cld see many employees in many organisations playing games during office hours (even sr staff)
