A Fable Boulder

I would like to share a story I found quite some time ago:

Once upon a time, there was a wise king who rules an empire as large as you can imagine. Being in the prosperous era, the kingdom was governed by the King's ministers while the King was free to tend to his own things. Being bored, he walked down the commoner's road and laid a boulder right in the middle of the roadway. Then he hid himself and kept watch, trying to see if there is anyone who would remove the huge rock.

Some of the king's wealthiest merchants and courtiers passed by and merely walked around it. Many of them had blamed the King for not keeping the roads clear, but none of them did make a single nudge to push the rock over, least to clear the boulder off the road.

After a while, a peasant came by carrying a load of vegetables on his way to the marketplace. As he reached the boulder, he stood for a while, looked at it, and decided to put down his load of vegetables on the roadside. Then, he tried pushing with all his might and effort. After much straining, he succeeded in pushing the rock over to the side of the road. Just as he was resting from all the hardwork, he noticed a pouch on the road where the boulder had been. He picked it up and opened it, which he found that the pouch was full of gold coins with a note in it. The note was from the King, stated that the gold was meant for the person who would remove the boulder from the roadway.

Being a merely peasant, he learned what most of us would never understand, and went back richer as well.

Many times, we put the blame on others when there is a challenge ahead of us. We blame the others for what we lack, but we do not have the foresight to see through or to overcome the obstacle itself.

The same perhaps, can be said to our very own political system. We are majorly flawed in the system of democracy, which we thrive being in the good hands of a good leader, and tumble as an incapable leader steps up. The oppositions are just gold fingers, pointing the gullible arrow at others for the mistakes they would also make, because they are from the same grassroots, and the selfishness is not well contained. And we as citizens? We shirk off, and rather choosing the lesser of two evils, between an ounce of cotton and an ounce of steel, because we are afraid of the challenges ahead. We put the blame on others for what went wrong, and sit comfortably waiting for the others to save the world for you. Is this the way it shall be?

Or perhaps, we should run off to another country, because the moon is rounder and larger on the other side of the earth. To be content of being a lowly immigrant than a what seems to be second rated citizen as they deem it. To enjoy the fruit of struggles of the countries where their citizens had long fought hard to achieve, because you'd prefer to have an easy-going life of fulfillment?

I guess our country still needs a hundred years for the people to mature. the Change, as promised a year ago, was perhaps a change of outfit, and not of mindset.
